Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • ½ medium onion, grated
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 (15 ounce) can white beans, no salt added, drained, rinsed and mashed
  • ¼ cup plain bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Optional: smoked paprika, dried basil

Instructions

  1. Mix turkey, onion, black pepper, salt, garlic, eggs, mashed beans, bread crumbs and optional spices in a large bowl. Form into 8 burgers.
  2.  Heat half of the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Fry the burgers in two batches until they are browned on both sides and cooked through, about 5 minutes per side.
  3. Serve on a wheat bun or lettuce wrap with desired toppings.

Ingredient Swap: Any beans will work! Try red, pinto or kidney.

Shopping Tip: Choose low salt/no salt added canned foods. If not available, draining and rinsing can reduce the salt content up to 40%.
