When good food habits start early, they can create a lifetime of good health. Through our partnership with Brighter Bites, we’re helping more children get the food they need to thrive.

Delivering fresh fruits and vegetables directly into families’ hands

The best way to ensure that children are getting the nutritious meals they need to grow and learn is to make the most nutritious foods easy to get and fun to eat. That’s the mission of Brighter Bites, a child nutrition nonprofit that partners with the Capital Area Food Bank to deliver fresh fruits and vegetables to children and their families at five regional elementary schools.

Every week, children and their families can bring home no-cost bags of groceries filled with 50 servings of fresh produce. That’s an entire week’s worth of fruits and vegetables. Along with the nutrition education the program provides, the food is an important part of helping local children eat well and live well.
