Washington, D.C., June 9, 2025 – As the school year draws to a close, the Capital Area Food Bank announced on Monday that its annual summer meals program is kicking off this month to provide free meals for children across DC, Maryland and Virginia.

Operating through the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), the food bank’s summer meals program delivers healthy, kid-friendly meals to apartment buildings, public recreation centers, places of worship, and other locations across the region. During 2024, our summer meal sites provided more than 56,000 meals and snacks, and we expect to provide thousands more this year.

When schools are out of session, children can lose access to a critical source of nutritious meals. Our summer meals sites help fill that gap, ensuring that children can access the food they need to continue learning, playing and growing.

To help families locate these summer meals sites in their neighborhoods, the food bank has two interactive webpages: KidsMealsDMV.org and ComidasParaNinos.org. The webpages each feature an interactive map showing when and where kids can get free meals this summer. In these maps, the food bank has created the only comprehensive collection available of the DMV’s free-to-all-kids meals sites.

Meal sites will start operating as early as June 16. Start dates and days/hours of operation vary across summer meal sites. Check out the interactive map and list of sites on our website for details on the location, days and times when a particular location will be providing meals.

The Capital Area Food Bank’s summer meals program is sponsored by Harris Teeter and Amazon Fresh, with additional support and partnership from Clear Channel Outdoor, The Washington Informer, and the DC Divas.

Meals will be provided free to eligible children, 18 years of age and younger, and are available without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.  A foster child and children who are members of households receiving SNAP or TCA benefits are automatically eligible to receive free meal benefits at eligible program sites. Visit www.mdsummermeals.org, www.kidsmealsdmv.org, or call 202-644-9864 for more information.
