Capital Area Food Bank announces free meals during the school year in Washington, D.C, Northern VA and Prince George’s County, MD.

Meals will be provided to all children free of charge

Washington, D.C., October 3rd, 2025 Capital Area Food Bank is serving afterschool meals for children in the District of Columbia, Prince George’s County and Northern VA through the Child and Adult Care Food Program.  

During the school year, The Capital Area Food Bank operates the afterschool program through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). This program fills meal gaps, supplementing school based federal free or reduced-price breakfasts, lunches, afterschool snacks and dinners for children 18 and under. Meal service is extended through the summertime, with sites offering daily breakfasts, lunches, snacks and suppers through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).  

Acceptance and participation requirements for the Program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided at the sites and time as follows, with additional sites added throughout the school year:

About the Capital Area Food Bank: 

The Capital Area Food Bank works to address hunger today and create brighter futures tomorrow for more than a million people across the region experiencing food insecurity.
