3 Simple Ways to Take Action for #HungerActionMonth

By cafb September 16, 2020

September is Hunger Action Month, a time when people in communities across the country will be taking a stand against hunger. This year, Hunger Action Month is more important than ever as our neighbors experience increased food insecurity and need due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here are 3 easy ways to join us in taking action against hunger:
  • Sign up to volunteer. Food insecurity and inequity were significant problems in the Greater Washington region well before the pandemic, with over 400,000 experiencing food insecurity prior to COVID. Now, that number is expected to increase by at least 48% in the coming year, and we need volunteers to help us pack the growing number of emergency boxes needed to keep our region’s families fed. • Host a digital food drive. It’s not always easy or efficient to collect canned goods and pantry staples from friends, family, and colleagues—especially with current restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But one of the most convenient ways to take action for Hunger Action Month is to motivate and engage your community with a digital food drive. Get started in 5 easy steps.
  • Double your impact. Thanks to a generous joint match provided by The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation, the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation, and The Morningstar Foundation, gifts made in September and October will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $1.5 million. Donate today to help your neighbors in need and double your impact.
