The Harbor Light Center: A Ray of Hope

By Roderick Moore October 9, 2012

The Capital Area Food Bank’s 700 partner agencies comprise the lifeline of our organization, enabling us to distribute food to more than 478,000 residents struggling with hunger throughout the Washington metro area. Many of our partner agencies provide a variety of services including medical assistance, job training and recovery assistance, in addition to distributing food.
One partner agency, the Harbor Light Center, offers holistic addiction recovery treatment by addressing the physical and emotional needs of its residents. The center also offers trainings that provide additional support to residents while they are on the road to recovery.
Harbor Light’s Executive Director Mary Lynn Logsdon says that partnering with the food bank allows the center to stretch its dollars and provide an even greater service to residents. Once a month, the center opens its doors to volunteers from DC Central Kitchen who help prepare meals for residents.
The Harbor Light Center offers hope to individuals struggling with substance dependency and the food bank is proud to partner with an organization that is making a positive impact in the community.
