Feds Feed Families Kick-Off

By Shamia Holloway June 12, 2012

The 4th Annual Feds Feed Family Food Drive kicked off yesterday at the Capital Area Food Bank with John Berry, Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, encouraging attendees to “beat their best.” Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Kathleen Merrigan and Chief U.S. Border Patrol Michael Fisher were all on hand to motivate agency representatives to collect more food than previous years. The group got a jump start on the food drive and brought over 1900 pounds of food to the event!
The attendees even helped prepare a delicious spicy black bean dip with the help of CAFB Dietician Jodi Balis and National Institutes of Health Executive Chef Robert Hedetniemi.
The Feds Feed Families Food Drive was launched as part of President Obama’s United We Serve campaign and encourages federal employees to participate in agency-wide food drives. With the help of the Feds Feed Families Food Drive, the food bank is able to meet increased demands during summer when donations are generally slow.
Since its beginnings, Feds Feed Families has become one of the CAFB’s largest food drives and to date has collected close to a million pounds of food. The food bank is thankful to all the federal employees and food drive chairs for their generous support.
