Giant Donates $103,486 to Capital Area Food Bank

By Anthony Agby March 7, 2012

The Capital Area Food Bank recognizes Giant Food for its amazing work in helping to promote food security in and around the Washington metro area. Through this initiative, Giant Food raised and donated $103,486 to the Capital Area Food Bank.
During October and November 2011, Giant Food conducted its 24th annual Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive, an event that encouraged shoppers at over 173 Giant Food stores in the region to donate money to local area food banks when checking out. In addition, each Giant store carried a collection cart for non-perishable items which were also donated to the food banks.
This is not the limit of Giant Food’s compassion for the region it serves. For the past 75 years, it has been committed to alleviating hunger in the area. Last year, the Good Neighbor campaign raised over $250,000 for area food banks. That provided more than 750,000 meals to people in need. Through Giant Food’s “Stuff-A-Truck” campaign it usually raises 12,000 pounds of food every year to feed those in need.
Join us in thanking Giant Food for all the wonderful things it does for our community. It is a great company that is aware of the benefits that come with helping out the region it serves. We are thankful for its compassion and ability to do what needs to be done.
