The Capital Area Food Bank serves 28 Kids Cafe sites throughout Northern Virginia. Community Lodgings, a Kids Cafe site located in the Arlandria neighborhood of Alexandria, served almost 10,000 meals last year through their after school program.
Community Lodgings also offers a Transitional Housing Program, which was featured in the January 9 “Hero Central” segment on WUSA-9. According to the segment, an estimated 10 percent of all homeless people in Northern Virginia live in Alexandria. Community Lodgings provides invaluable services to parents and their children including ESL courses, life skills workshops, English tutoring and afterschool mentoring. As stated in the WUSA-9 segment, “Community Lodgings is guiding families to independence and self-sufficiency.”
