Peace Corps Celebrates 50 Years with CAFB!

By Nicole Durant March 15, 2011

On Tuesday, March 1, 500 Peace Corps volunteers went out into the Washington metro area to volunteer their time to various organizations in celebration of their 50th anniversary.  The Capital Area Food Bank was honored to host over 75 of those volunteers in both our Washington, D.C. and Lorton facilities.   In addition to the volunteers, we were welcomed by Peace Corps Director, Aaron Williams.

The Peace Corps volunteers helped us pack 995 pounds of food for our Kids Cafe boxes in our Lorton, VA branch; 1,300 Weekend Bags; and 16,230 pounds of frozen chicken in our D.C. branch.  Because of dedicated volunteers like these, the food bank is able to serve 2.1 million meals each month.
