We’re building something new…
Introducing Hard Hats Against Hunger, a new initiative bringing the Greater Washington building community together to support neighbors in need. From March 1–31, 2026, firms across real estate, development, architecture, property management, and construction will compete in a friendly fundraiser to make a real impact.
Teams earn points for every dollar raised, and each dollar provides two meals for someone in need. The campaign’s first-year goal is $100,000 — enough to provide 200,000 meals for families across the region.

We’ve seen the power of industry partnerships before with our Food from the Bar campaign, which for 16 years has brought the legal community together to raise funds for families in need. Looking to expand that model, we turned to the architecture community, where our annual Canstruction event has already sparked incredible creativity — firms design elaborate architectural works out of cans, which are then donated to the food bank. Hard Hats Against Hunger brings that same spirit of teamwork and innovation into a fundraising campaign for the entire building industry.
“We’re so excited to launch Hard Hats Against Hunger,” says Abby Fenton, CAFB’s Chief Advancement Officer. “The construction and design community has long been an incredible partner through creative efforts like Canstruction, and we’re thrilled to add this campaign as another meaningful way the industry can fight hunger and help our community thrive.”
Hard Hats Against Hunger isn’t just a fundraiser: it’s way to turn teamwork and creativity into meaningful impact, helping bring nutritious meals to plates across the region.
