On June 11, 2012, the Capital Area Food Bank will host the kick-off for the 4th Annual Feds Feed Families Food Drive. This summer long food drive was launched in June 2009 by the Office of Personnel Management and the Chief Human Capital Officers (CHCO) Council as part of the President’s “United We Serve” initiative and continues to grow each year. Last year, the Capital Area Food Bank received over 500,000 pounds of needed food from this government-wide effort.
May the Best Fed Win
Throughout the summer months, Federal employees across the country collect nonperishable food donations to support local food banks. At the conclusion of each month (June, July and August), the donations collected at Federal offices, will be delivered to local food banks by the Department of Defense. Every donation will be weighed, tracked and reported as part of a friendly competition. Last year’s winners included the Department Of Defense and the United States Department of Agriculture.
An Urgent Need in the Summer
The donations from the Feds Feed Families Food Drive are especially important, because they come at a time of year when donations traditionally decline. This summer, Federal employees will come together to nourish communities nationally, by collecting these needed items (PDF).
