Bring your class to join us for a day of fresh air and fun in the CAFB’s Urban Demonstration Garden!

Our field trips offer an educational, eye-opening experience focused on growing food and eating well. The day includes a tour of our Urban Demonstration Garden, lessons and activities, games, discussion, and food preparation in our outdoor teaching kitchen! Students will prepare and eat their own lunch, made with fresh ingredients that they’ve just harvested.

Our field trips provide:

  • Garden activities
  • A food prep & cooking experience
  • Snacks and lunch featuring garden ingredients
  • Paid transportation

Curriculum standards met include:

  • Photosynthesis & energy flow
  • Cycling of matter
  • Food groups
  • Benefits of healthy eating

Field trip time and location:

Field trips are offered Monday-Friday and scheduled to run for about 4 hours. Please plan to arrive between 8:45-9:00 AM, and for pick up/departure between 1:00-1:15PM.

The garden is located behind the Capital Area Food Bank’s DC distribution center at 4900 Puerto Rico Ave NE, Washington DC.
