Grocer's Corner: The Harris Teeter Difference

By Ashley Hieb December 8, 2015

The CAFB’s outstanding grocer partners make our work possible.  To show our appreciation, we’re starting a new column – Grocer’s Corner” – to begin spotlighting companies making a difference in hunger in our region.  We’re proud to announce Harris Teeter as our first featured partner.
Harris Teeter ardently supports the food bank’s commitment to providing healthy food. Dan Marett, of Harris Teeter and former CAFB board member (picture below), played a critical role in shaping the grocer’s support.

  • They have overall generously donated $900,000 and since 2010, contributed 627,386 pounds of food to the CAFB.
  • Harris Teeter has stepped up and donated truckloads of fresh produce in the early summer and fall months when donations are slow for the CAFB.
  • In partnership with the Washington Nationals, Harris Teeter collects over 10,000 pounds of food each summer by hosting its annual summer food drives at Nationals Park.
  • Most recently, Harris Teeter was a lead sponsor for the Fill the Bowl Challenge in September, which encouraged 30 businesses in the Washington metro area to work together to donate more than $40,000 to help feed families, children and seniors in need. We’re grateful to Harris Teeter for all it’s doing to assist the food bank and the mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, and grandparents that we serve!
