Caps Veteran Still Scores Big in the Community

By Matt Crawford November 29, 2012

Former Washington Capitals star Peter Bondra and fellow hockey fans volunteered their time before presenting a $10,000 check to the Capital Area Food Bank during their mid-November visit.
The donation was made on behalf of the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation.
The group was put to work, assembling 600 bags of produce for the Weekend Bag program and sorting 15,000 pounds of food.
Volunteers also helped on the agency shopping floor, where food bank partner agencies pick up orders of food, household and personal hygiene items.
“I’m really happy to be here and work with fans to help those in need,” said the right winger who played in 961 games with the Capitals from 1990-2004. “It’s great to see people helping out for the cause.”
The Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation supports the community efforts of the professional teams such as the Washington Capitals, Mystics and Wizards.
Thank you to the NHL great, and all the Capitals fans who helped out on the foundation’s behalf.
