Over 500 gardeners are expected attend Rooting DC on Saturday, February 18th at Coolidge High School in Takoma. Rooting DC is a day-long free program open to the public that offers gardening workshops, hands-on cooking demonstrations, round-table food policy discussions and an information fair. Rooting DC works to connect the community with the production, distribution, preparation and preservation of fresh produce – especially when it is grown locally, sustainably and without harmful chemicals. This year’s conference will focus on food security and nutrition issues, including a track of workshops on school yard gardening and on sustainability.
Rooting DC aims to provide education about urban food production and consumption, to cultivate health and to preserve the environment. As a member of the Field to Fork Network, the Capital Area Food Bank is proud to partner with this exciting event for another year. Food bank staff will teach a workshop on Getting the Most Bang for your Buck Through Gardening. Food bank partners, along with volunteers and other stakeholders, are encouraged to take advantage of this day of learning, growing and gardening!
Workshops will be provided in English, but Spanish translation will be available for specific offerings.
