Everyone Plays a Role in Stuff-a-Truck!

by

It’s “all hands on deck” for an event this big!

Stuff-a-Truck has become one of the largest food and fund drives of the year, and every single staff member at the food bank is playing a role in this huge event: either on the front lines, or behind the scenes, making it all run smoothly.

As the Director of Volunteer Programs here at the Capital Area Food Bank, I must admit, getting people to share in the giving at this time of year is not too difficult, mostly because the event is so much fun!

On Friday, December 7, the food bank partners with 16 Giant stores across the Washington metro area to collect non-perishable items for more than 680,000 residents in need. Dozens of members of the community come out to volunteer their time. Some of those volunteers greet donors, others carry the donations into the trucks we have on hand, and the rest are great at spreading the word about the fabulous work being done by the food bank during these tough economic times.

I believe that at this time of year, as we prepare to gather with friends and loved ones, we better appreciate what we have and more often think of those without.

This year marks our 10th anniversary of Stuff-A-Truck, and our volunteers truly enjoy sharing their passion for the cause with the crews from Fox 5 and local CBS radio stations, as the news crews cover the event all day long – from 6 am to 11:00 pm!

With the live entertainment, the variety of people from our community and the overall great feeling of giving, it is a guaranteed good time. Please consider dropping by to make a donation, and shake hands with some of our many volunteers!

Good Morning, I’m near the Hyattsville location. Is it too late to volunteer for tomorrow’s event? If so, I’d like to be involved in any future projects. I’ll be dropping off in the A.M.
Thanks for such a wonderful gift.
