Legal Community Feeds Thousands through 9th Annual Food From the Bar Campaign

by

Lawyers from dozens of top D.C. law firms, law schools, and legal organizations recently came together at the offices of firm K&L Gates to celebrate an outstanding achievement: providing more than 800,000 meals for people in need through the 9th annual Food From the Bar Campaign.

Through the exceptional efforts of nearly 40 law firms, schools and organization, the 2017 campaign succeeded in reaching its goal of $320,000 – a 14 percent increase over last year’s funds raised! Those funds will make it possible for children, seniors, veterans, and families to get the meals they need to thrive.

The campaign, previously known as Outlaw Hunger, has provided more than 3 million meals to the Washington metro area since 2008 and has become one of the food bank’s most important and successful corporate fundraising initiatives. With the continued support of the executive and honorary committees and sponsorship from media partners including Nahigian Strategies, Washington Business Journal, Bisnow and the National Law Journal, members of the D.C. law community were more engaged than ever this year.

Co-chair Tim Sullivan (Thompson Coburn) receives his award from co-chair Kelly Fisher (Koonz, McKenney, Johnson, DePaolis & Lightfoot)

At a celebration dinner held in June, 2017 FFTB co-chairs Tim Sullivan and Kelly Fisher were there to help celebrate and distribute awards, including one for Tim’s firm, Thompson Coburn LLP. Recognition also went out to a bevy of law firms and Freddie Mac’s legal department for successful fundraising and for discovering unique and creative ways to increase donations through office activities like silent auctions, bingo, wine tastings, and karaoke nights.

The Capital Area Food Bank would like to express its sincerest gratitude to all participating firms, especially those that matched staff donations, and individuals from HR managers, assistants, paralegals, partners and more who participated in donating money, nutritious food and/or volunteering to sort food drive donations or distribute food at one of our regional family markets.  The commitment and passion of every participant has helped make more than 800,000 meals possible this summer.  Together we can solve hunger.
