Fresh Produce Express

By Shamia Holloway December 10, 2012

The Rolling Crest Community Center was abuzz with activity on Tuesday of last week when FedEx team members made a generous donation of fresh produce and showed children participating in the Capital Area Food Bank’s Weekend Bag program how to make a fun fruit salad. The effort was part of FedEx’s national commitment to addressing the hunger epidemic across the nation.
FedEx team members, working alongside CAFB staff, demonstrated how to make a fruit salad using ingredients included in a typical Weekend Bag. The children even walked away with a bag chock full of apples, kiwi, grapes, bananas and honey so they could make the dish at home.
The fun fruit salad was a big hit with everyone! See the recipe below to recreate this delicious and simple dish at home.
FedEx has supported the food bank since 2008 and has donated more than $55,000 to the Weekend Bag program. In the past year, more than 300 FedEx team members have volunteered countless hours to pick up, deliver, sort or donate more than 218,000 pounds of food to families struggling with hunger nationwide. The food bank is grateful for the continued support of community partners like FedEx.
