Free Summer Meals for Children and Teens

By Kendra Rowe Salas July 9, 2012

Summer is officially here. School is out and the temperatures outside are soaring. For many children and teens in the Washington metro area, summer break also means a break from the regular meals provided in school.
Help the Capital Area Food Bank spread the word about where children and teens can eat for free this summer. Here’s how you can help:

  • Promote the National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3-Hungry or 1-877-8-HAMBRE. Hotline staff members provide information about summer meal sites in both English and Spanish
  • Distribute summer meal fliers to families and teens in your community
  • Use your Facebook, Twitter and other social media connections to spread the word about free summer meals
