The Community Preservation and Development Corporation’s Southern Ridge Community Center in Southeast, DC, working with the Capital Area Food Bank’s Kids Cafe® program, has been selected for Starbucks’ Community Card: Vote. Give. Grow program.
During the school year, Southern Ridge receives snacks and suppers from the food bank providing children who attend the after-school program meals while they are out of school. Over the summer, Southern Ridge has offered a five -week summer camp program, but due to funding issues, the summer camp is in jeopardy. Typically, the camp provides 20 children with three meals and a snack five days a week and takes them on field trips around the city while they continue to work on reading and math. You can help ensure this summer camp stays open.
Here’s how:
The Community Card: Vote. Give. Grow program enables a Starbucks’ customer with a registered Starbucks card to cast a vote for one of four non-profit organizations in his or her community. There are 124 non-profits nationwide that are vying for a portion of the $4 million the Starbucks Foundation will be contributing to the program. Votes will be tallied at the end of April and then $4 million from the Starbucks Foundation will be distributed to the non-profits based on the numbers of votes each organization receives. Simply go to www.votegivegrow.com, sign in with your Starbucks card and choose Community Preservation and Development Corporation as your local organization to make sure the Southern Ridge summer program stays open this summer.
