More than ever, older members of our communities are living on limited, fixed incomes and are struggling to meet their basic needs. Rising costs in healthcare, food, and expenses associated with helping to raise children and grandchildren make seniors especially vulnerable when balancing their budgets each month.
The Senior Brown Bag Program helps to meet the needs by providing income qualified senior citizens at sites throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia with monthly supplemental bags of food as well as educational materials on nutrition and food sustainability topics. Senior Brown Bag clients also receive fresh produce with their brown bags.
Each year the Bringing in the Birds with Bucks campaign raises funds to provide Senior Brown Bag clients with a special package that includes Thanksgiving trimmings and easy-to-prepare portions.
