The First Annual “Governor’s Bowl” food and funds drive kicks off on Memorial Day (May 28th) and runs through Independence Day (July 4th), in effort to keep Virginia’s food banks stocked during the summer months.
Hunger in Virginia
Currently, over 217,000 people- 1 in 6 children under 18-are at risk of or are experiencing hunger in Northern Virginia. Your donations will support the Capital Area Food Bank, which last year distributed more than 30 million pounds of food, including nearly 15 million pounds of fresh produce.
Team Up
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell , the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks are joining efforts for the first time in 2012 to create a friendly competition among all Virginia Chambers of Commerce, their member businesses, and state government offices (See the governor kick off the event). The Chamber or government office that raises the most pounds of food (every dollar donated will equal four pounds) will be awarded a prestigious and highly coveted “Governor’s Bowl” in the categories of small, medium, and large for Chamber offices and a special bowl for the top government office. Governor McDonnell will personally deliver awards to the winning chamber offices after the conclusion of the “Governor’s Bowl.”
