Brown Bag

Senior citizens in low-income housing are provided with monthly bags of food and educational information on nutrition at 34 locations throughout our service area. For more information please email brownbag@capitalareafoodbank.org

Direct Distributions

Every month the CAFB collaborates with the USDA to distribute food through the Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) directly to those eligible in Arlington, Langley Park and Northeast D.C. communities. For more information please email agencyrelations@capitalareafoodbank.org

From the Ground Up at Clagett Farm

The CAFB works with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to bring sustainably grown fresh produce to underserved communities. Our partnership ensures that up to half of Clagett Farm’s harvest is donated to CAFB member agencies , provided to youth who participate in our summer educational programming,  or sold at reduced-prices to low-income individuals and families. Grow A Row

Hunger Lifeline

This emergency food assistance referral system connects individuals and families seeking immediate aid with a neighborhood CAFB partner agency. With a current average of 150 referrals per month, call volumes continue to increase. Kids Cafe®

CAFB partners with after-school programs through the Kids Cafe® program to provide well-balanced hearty snacks or dinners for more than 2,000 children. Mobile Pantry

Sister Hookup

Ward 8 Farmers Market

The Ward 8 Farmers Market and the CAFB have formed a partnership to ensure that a source of local, affordable produce is available to low-income residents east of the Anacostia River.

Weekend Bag

Children who receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch throughout the week at school can take home these nutritious, kid-friendly food bags for the weekend. The bags are packed by volunteers and delivered by Capital Area Food Bank trucks to be distributed each week from community-based sites for the children to carry home.
