With Outreach and Training
Agency Achievement Academy
Training workshops teach our partner agencies about the administration, operations, health and nutrition, and advocacy involved with running a quality emergency feeding program. These are offered free of charge to any area nonprofit organization throughout the year. For more information please email aaa@capitalareafoodbank.org
Food Stamp Initiative
Most people eligible for Food Stamps (64 percent) don’t get them because the application process is complicated, or because they are simply unaware of the federal Food Stamp Program. This initiative trains volunteers to identify and assist potentially eligible candidates with the application process. For more information please email advocacy@capitalareafoodbank.org
Health Ambassador Program
CAFB trains representatives from partner agencies to become a nutrition resource in their community. Health Ambassador training sessions have included How to Do a Cooking Demo, Nutrition Messaging in the Food Pantry Setting, and Marketing Healthy Foods to Clients. For more information please email aaa@capitalareafoodbank.org
Metropolitan Area Hunger Conferences
The Annual Metropolitan Hunger Conference and the Northern Virginia Hunger Summit help agencies network with each other and hone their skills through workshops on topics such as advocacy, grant writing and federal entitlement programs. The events highlight the complex issues of hunger in the Washington metropolitan area. For more information please email agencyrelations@capitalareafoodbank.org
ServSafe® Food Handling Certification
Partner agencies attend an interactive and information-packed training to learn how to receive, store, prepare, and handle food safely. ServeSafe trainings are offered to partner agencies throughout the year. For more information please email servsafe@capitalareafoodbank.org
