Overview of the Program: The Ambassador Volunteer program utilizes the skills and talent of our volunteers for more than packing and sorting in the CAFB warehouses.
Based on their skills, these volunteers are assigned to a department within the food bank to work on a specific project. Read below for current Ambassador Volunteer opportunities and more information on how to sign up!

Administration: Perform CAFB administrative duties.

Food For Kids: Support the Weekend Bags and Kids Cafe programs in DC or VA by volunteering to pack for Kids Cafe, lead other volunteers, distribute food, and help with admin tasks.

Harvest for Health: Help with web content, website updates and database management for the D.C. Farm to School Network, which is housed in the Harvest for Health department.

Nutrition Education: Calling all Culinary professionals, Nutrition/Medical/Health professionals, and cooking/nutrition enthusiasts! Volunteer for a variety of different cooking and nutrition programs to help make healthy food accessible to individuals living on a limited budget. Choose Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters Program (6-week class series), the CAFB’s Kids Cook! Program (4-week class series), or the CAFB’s Cooking Demonstration Program (1-time events) – or try them all!

Partner Relations: Lead workshops for our partner agencies, assist with food distributions, and more.
Programs: Assist the Programs department with large-scale projects and cross-cutting needs.

Special Events: Help staff community food drives or table at health fairs throughout the DC community.

How to Sign Up: To sign up for an Ambassador Volunteer position, please complete this form and return it to volunteer@capitalareafoodbank.org. To sign up for a Cooking Matters volunteer position, please complete this application and email to volunteer@capitalareafoodbank.org.
Once we receive your form, we will work with you to place you with a department to volunteer on an ongoing basis. Volunteer hours vary based on department and volunteer role. Training and orientation will be provided for Ambassador Volunteers by the respective department. We ask that these volunteers commit to volunteering regularly, meaning a regularly scheduled time slot that is mutually beneficial.
